“Why, Corona?” A parody

In light of the recent pandemic, I think it would be remiss of me to not write a poem about the coronavirus.

Or in this case, a parody of the Kinks’, “My Sharona” (which, apparently, “was going too  far” for Weird Al, according to the New York Post. However, many others have taken up the task, which you can listen to with this handy playlist I made. You may also want to check out the one made in Hebrew by these two sisters from Israel.)

In any case, here’s mine, which I wrote on 3/15 before I realized anyone had already covered it. Laugh, cry, wonder, consume.

Why, Corona?

Ooh, you little scary one, you scary one
What is with your first name, oh why, Corona?
Do you make the people run, the people run
Back into their homes to grab lime Corona?

When you gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty virus!
Come one, give it up, for the sake of the compromised!

Why, why, why, aye-aye, whoa!
W-w-w-why, Corona?

Come up with a cure already, we are so ready,
Don’t let any more people die, Corona!
Keeping it a mystery, it gets to me;
Hoarding all the bleach and TP, why, Corona?

When you gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty virus!
Come one, give it up, for the sake of the compromised!
Why, why, why, aye-aye, whoa!
W-w-w-why, Corona?
W-w-w-why, Corona?

When you gonna get to me, get to me?
Is it just a matter of time, Corona?
Is it d-d-destiny, d-destiny
To spread, freak out all of humankind, Corona?

When you gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty virus!
Come one, give it up, for the sake of the compromised!
Why, why, why, aye-aye, whoa!
W-w-w-w-w-w-w-why, why, why, aye-aye, whoa!
W-w-w-why, Corona?
W-w-w-why, Corona?
W-w-w-why, Corona?
W-w-w-why, Corona?

Ooooooo-ohhh, why Corona?
Ooooooo-ohhh, why Corona?
Ooooooo-ohhh, why Corona?
